raising a reader
In March 2011, we launched the Raising a Reader program to promote literacy, funded by Bank of the West. Volunteers came into the Family Engagement Center to stuff red canvas bags with four books -- some in English, some in Spanish, since four out of five of our students are Hispanic. Students received a video on how to read to their children, and then took home the books. Each week they return and trade in their bag with a new one.
