Major Gifts Officer

Florence Crittenton Services is committed to helping teen families create cycles of success.  Using a holistic and proven approach, with academics as the foundation, the Florence Crittenton School offers a spectrum of support services for the entire teen family, including an Early Learning Center for infants and toddlers and a Family Engagement Center for babies’ fathers and family members. 

The school has forged a unique partnership with Denver Public Schools (DPS) for over 25 years.  It serves pregnant and parenting teens eligible to attend Denver schools.

SUMMARY
As a member of the development team the major gifts officer is a self-directed, results-oriented front line fundraiser. This individual is responsible for identifying and qualifying prospective donors, cultivating positive relationships and directly soliciting donations at the major gift level. The incumbent is responsible for developing tailored strategies to gain/enhance the interest and involvement of current donors and prospects and will be responsible for securing the support from donors who are capable of making gifts of $5,000+.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 125 potential donors capable and inclined to give $5000 or more and design and implement appropriate cultivation and solicitation activities
  • Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts including:  determining ongoing relationship with prospect/donor, recommending specific purpose and level of gift, identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation, assuring solicitations are carried out successfully
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    • Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors
    • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
    • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
    • Make solicitations when appropriate
  • Maintain a visit scheduled of up to 20 face-to-face visits per month
  • Achieve agreed upon dollar goals for assigned major gifts
  • Establish strategies to engage and move donors up the donor pyramid
  • Identify and build partnerships with organizations and associations that can advance our cause and build interest amongst members to facilitate individual donor relationship development e.g. service clubs
  • Develop and manage a complement of major gift volunteers capable and willing to identify, cultivate, and solicit others
  • Prepare briefing notes for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings for the President & CEO, Vice President of Development and the Board as required
  • Maintain accurate constituent and tracking records in Raiser’s Edge database through call reports or direct entry

STEWARDSHIP

  • With the Vice President, Development, jointly develop and implement stewardship plans for major gift donors
  • Participate in and leverage donor stewardship events

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Actively seek out opportunities to be involved in the community; act as an ambassador for the agency
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to inform and inspire support
  • Develop written proposals for major gift prospects
  • Work with communications manager to ensure appropriate materials to support cultivation and solicitation activities

PLANNING, BUDGETING & REPORTING

  • Contribute to the annual operating plan and strategic planning sessions for the agency as a whole
  • Continue to build knowledge and understanding of best practices in major gift fundraising, donor relations, the changing expectations of donors and trends in philanthropy
  • Report on personal portfolio and funding raising efforts through use of Raiser’s Edge reporting

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years successful experience in major or planned fits fundraising preferably in human services or education
  • Proven ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors to develop relationship with them and the agency
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of achieving results
  • Proven ability to work independently and with limited supervision and work as an effective member of a larger team
  • Creative and analytical skills
  • Financial planning skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Proficiency with database utilization and modern office software

Full time, year-round position
