end-of-year giving

As we celebrate the Florence Crittenton School's 26th anniversary year, it’s gratifying to step back and assess how much we have accomplished over the past quarter century. The shining faces of the record 20 young women who graduated this past May from Florence Crittenton High School said it all: Florence Crittenton Services really does provide inspiration and hope to teen families.

Just ask Evangaline.

Isabel and JuliusThe daughter of an alcoholic crack addict, it’s hardly a surprise that Evangaline found herself pregnant at 16. During her pregnancy, the girl’s mother was evicted from her apartment and Evangaline was forced to sleep on the floor of a bedbug-infested motel.

But Evangaline wanted more for herself and her son Jayden, who was born in October 2009. The pair was taken in by an older couple through a local agency, and the girl began attending the Florence Crittenton School, where she is now a top student in her Senior year. “I like how all the teachers are really supportive,” Evangaline says. “They help me learn everything I need to know. Everyone is really positive here.”

And that's good for all of us.
In When Girls Don’t Graduate, We All Fail - A Call to Improve High School Graduation Rates for Girls, the National Women’s Law Center examined the problems created when girls do not finish high school. The report challenges us all, pointing out that, "Because pregnancy and parenting responsibilities play a significant role in many girls' decisions to drop out of school, it is critical that students who face these challenges be given the support they need to continue their educations and fulfill their academic potential.

Florence Crittenton Services' meets that challenge head-on. With the help of people like you, we continue to improve our programs and services to better meet the needs of struggling teen families.

Especially the children, the heart of these young families.
The first five years of a child’s life are crucial for social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Failure to invest time and resources during children’s early years has long-term effects on the foster care, health care, social support and education systems. Florence Crittenton Services' Early Learning Center helps create healthy children and families, saving them from lives of poverty, underemployment and dependence on social-welfare programs.
