young fathers program

young father with son Parent Pathways' Young Fathers Program provides a comprehensive array of services to prepare young fathers for the responsibilities and joys of fatherhood. The program helps young fathers learn how to become nurturing parents, establish paternity, complete their education, acquire marketable job skills, obtain employment and become positive, contributing members of their communities and families.

Parenting Education Specialist Kate Mulvaney and Young Fathers Program Case Manager Warren Smith in October attended the National Center for Parents as Teachers Conference titled "Issues in Working with Teen Parents." The workshop examined techniques for promoting positive growth and development across family generations - between teen parents and their children, and between teen parents and their own parents.

Parent Pathways plans to implement many of the program's activities in both our father/family parenting class and with the self-exploration students (studying from home after childbirth). They will be used to help fathers overcome barriers they encounter while trying to stay involved in their children's lives. We will also be able to support teen mothers and fathers trying to work together in their parenting role.
