				Desiree Maestas

Desiree Maestas has a son, Christian, who is 22 months old.

"My son is a very fast learner and is very smart," she says. "Christian is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I wouldn't change anything that happened or anything about him. He is my love, my life. I thank God every day that He has given me a special and beautiful blessing."

Since becoming a teen mother, Desiree has become more responsible and mature. "Becoming a teen mother at 15 has made me grow up very quickly," she explains.

And the Florence Crittenton has helped in many ways. "One, the on-site childcare center has given me safety, security and the ability to be near my son while completing high school. Two, the emotional and professional support through staff and community, by being there to talk when I needed to, I now feel more comfortable to open up and be able to talk to teachers, counselors, and other staff about my feelings, than I did at my other high school."

Desiree received her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) license in April and plans to continue her nursing education and become a pediatrician or a neo-natal nurse. She hopes to own a beautiful house with a good-sized backyard to watch her son grow up and become a successful young man.

Her advice: "Being a teen mom isn't easy but, you can make it with lots of support. DON'T GIVE UP!"
