all-staff meeting
A lot of ground was covered at the All-Staff meeting on Nov. 4, when interim President and CEO Patti Klinge was introduced and everyone had a chance to participate in a Question & Answer session. We wanted to make sure all staff are on the same page about all our concerns! So here's a summary about the issues we talked about.
ceo transition
Q. I hope our new CEO wants to keep the connection with DPS and NOT go the way of a charter school.
A. There are no plans to consider becoming a charter school. We love DPS and value the relationship.
Q. Are there any in-house candidates for the new CEO job?
A. There are no in-house candidates.
Q. What non-profit partnerships will there be with the new CEO?
A. We will examine that after the new CEO comes on Board. Any new partnerships have to enhance our mission.
salary & compensation
Q. Are there any plans for an increase in pay when Parent Pathways employees earn degrees or certificates?
A. We do not do that right now. There is no specific reward, though such efforts enhance your performance. But we are evaluating this under the compensation project.
Q. Will education as well as experience figure into the salary survey?
A. We look at the level of the position and the education required for the position, and those combined determine whether it’s a comparable job. Education comes into play indirectly, as we look at what is needed to do a job. It also plays into the salary in the market for the position.
Q. Is the Board considering reorganizing to better balance compensation needs?
A. No, the time is not right for any reorganization during this time of transition. It would create chaos. No such changes should happen until after the new CEO comes on board.
Q. In the salary survey, I want to make sure the ELC will be evaluated against education programs and not day care programs. (There was also a similar question about Lab Schools that mentor students.)
A. We will keep that in mind and be comparing based on job descriptions and requirements.
health insurance
Q. Are there any indications of changes to health insurance?
A. There will be an increase in the amount employees pay for health insurance next year. We are still negotiating with our broker, and will continue over the next couple of weeks. Open enrollment is in early December.
More information about health insurance will be sent to all affected staff later this month.
board & other
Q. Is there a plan to have program staff present more frequently at Board meetings?
A. There is a real interest on the Board in learning a lot more about programs. We have a commitment to do that on an ongoing basis. The Program committee recommends the program subject matter for each Board meeting. Ni the past three months, there has been a Program Committee component at every Board meeting. It helps us stay connected to our mission and meet staff. Our goal is to have Program people there at every Board meeting, except when there’s important subject matter to discuss, such as the audit.
Q. Are there any plans for administrative staff to be able to access the server from home?
A. For Parent Pathways staff, that is in the works. (Donna commented that for DPS staff, there is no desire for additional access.)
