florence crittenton school volunteer opportunities

florence crittenton school
Operates in collaboration with Denver Public Schools and provides fully accredited middle and high school education and a wide range of support services to help teen mothers stay in school and graduate, give birth to healthy babies and learn the skills needed to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency and build strong, healthy families.

An on-site Early Learning Center provides an enriched developmental curriculum and ongoing developmental assessment for children ages three weeks to three years.  The School operates on the Denver Public School schedule, mid-August through the end of May from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Volunteers can be involved in the work of the Florence Crittenton School in the following ways:

tutor
Help students to do well and complete high school by offering tutoring in Math, Reading, English or Social Studies.  Tutoring is provided in either the classroom setting or in special “pull-out” sessions with students identified as needing ongoing, individualized assistance.  Most opportunities require no special skills but some tutoring, such as in Math, requires comfort in the subject area and in working with teens.  A weekly commitment of at least 90 minutes, scheduled between 7:45 am to 2:30 pm weekdays, is preferred.

early learning center assistant
Support the professional staff in caring for babies and toddlers while their moms are attending school. A regular weekly commitment of 2-4 hours is required.

job shadowing host
Offer young women enrolled in the school’s career development classes the opportunity to spend a day or half-day at your work location.  Specific dates and times are set at the convenience of the volunteer.  A commitment of once or twice a year is appreciated.

lecturer or workshop presenter
Professionals, representing diverse fields, present 45-minute sessions on specific career, educational or life skill topics. Availability during the school day, once or twice a year, is appreciated.

baby buck store  volunteer
The students at Florence Crittenton have opportunities to receive awards certificates while at school and can trade these certificates for items in the Baby Bucks Store.  Volunteers would distribute Baby Bucks items to students and organize the Store as new donations are received.  Store opens two days each month during the school lunch hour and a commitment of 2-4 hours each month is required.

yes, i can help…

At Parent Pathways, the volunteer opportunities are continually growing.  In addition to these established opportunities, we are happy to work with prospective volunteers to design assignments that utilize their unique talents and skills while meeting the needs of our young families.
